You don’t only have to queue behind a long waiting list, you also have to shell out a few more bucks as Subaru Philippines has given the 2023 BRZ a price increase.
Motor Image Pilipinas, official distributor of Subaru vehicles in the Philippines, has increased the price of both BRZ variants by Php 120,000. The Subaru BRZ 2.4 M/T is now priced at Php 2,519,000, while the Subaru BRZ 2.4 EyeSight A/T is now priced at Php 2,619,000. With this new pricing, the two-door sports coupe is now in the price range of the recently launched Subaru WRX, which starts at Php 2,508,000 for the manual and Php 2,658,000 for the automatic.
The new pricing may also persuade prospective buyers to just wait for the Toyota GR86. Although the Toyota Motor Philippines has not announced anything about it yet, reports say that it was already spotted at Clark International Speedway during a preview for local dealers. More importantly, it may be available in a more affordable trim, although you can expect some downgrades such as black fabric seats instead of the leather/ultrasuede combination found in the Subaru BRZ.
As for the difference in performance, Subaru has already explained the key differences between the all-new BRZ and the GR86. The former is more focused on “grip” while the latter is on “drift”. Here’s how they differ in terms of chassis:
- Curb Weight: Subaru BRZ is up to 6.8 kilograms heavier than the Toyota GR86
- Front Spring Rate: 30 Nm/mm (vs 28 Nm/mm)
- Rear Spring Rate: 35 Nm/mm (vs 39 Nm/mm)
- Front Stabilizer Bar: 18.3 mm, hallow-type (vs 18 mm, solid-type)
- Rear Stabilizer Bar: 14 mm, body-mounted (vs 15 mm, sub-frame-mounted)
- Front Suspension Knuckle: Aluminum (vs cast Iron)
- Rear Suspension Bushings: Rear Trailing Arm (vs carry over)
