Video Unblur Tool Coming to Google Photos, but there’s a Catch

While we have seen Google’s Pixel series debut unique tools for Google Photos such as Photo Unblur, some of its older tools like Magic Eraser have become available to Google One subscribers, iPhones, and select Samsung devices. Ahead of the unveiling of the Pixel 8 series, Google appears to be working on a new tool called Video Unblur, as spotted by 9to5google.

Based on the screenshots shared by 9to5google, video unblur appears to utilize machine learning (and presumably the powers of the next Tensor processor that will be found on the Pixel 8 series) to make videos sharper–similar in principle to what their photo unblur tool is capable of.

Aside from video unblur, 9to5google also uncovered 14 video effects under the Overlays tab, which we presume is Google’s way to make Photos a great app for editing videos as well–provided that you are using a Pixel device.

Before you do get excited with these video editing features on Google Photos, video unblur and video overlay might be exclusive to the Pixel 8 series initially. While 9to5google has yet to figure out how both tools will work, it’s interesting to see how Google will bring its machine learning knowledge to videos as well.

Google is expected to unveil these features at Google I/O 2023 on May 10, along with a possible preview of the Pixel 8 series.
