5 Epic Face Palms About the UBER-LTFRB Telenovela Saga

Kahit si Godzilla napa facepalm

Yesterday social media pretty much blew up when the LTFRB suspended Uber for 1 month after they defied the regulator’s order to stop accepting and accrediting applications. The drama dragged on the whole afternoon as Uber resumed operations after filing a motion for reconsideration. The LTFRB promptly said that the suspension order was still in effect and Uber was putting their partner drivers in a dangerous position. As the day ended the LTFRB denied the motion of Uber. By around 8PM, Uber stopped offering rides via their app again.

It’s a crazy drama, one that won’t end, at least for the next few weeks. For now though here are 5 crazy ironies that we see out of this madness.

1. Taxis are complaining Uber/Grab steal their customers and yet they continue to refuse passengers

Just check Twitter yesterday and you’ll see how frustrated Filipino commuters were in trying to find a ride to go home from work.

2. LTFRB says they have the public interest in mind but their hotlines never work.

Have you guys ever tried calling the numbers plastered all over cabs and buses? Guess what? They don’t work.

3. LTFRB suspends Uber but colorum buses, uv, and taxis are rampant.

There’s so much hate for Uber and Grab while illegal buses, taxis, and utility vehicles continue to ply the roads everyday.

4. Uber says they want to reduce traffic and yet they have over 60,000 cars.

I find it funny that Uber keeps harping about how they’re solving the traffic problem of the country and yet they have over 60,000+ cars on the road. They’re not the sole cause of traffic but it would be the height of ignorance to say that they’re not a contributor.

5. Uber and Grab are blamed for traffic and yet when they’re suspended, traffic is still horrible.

On the flip side, with Uber suspended you would think that traffic would not be as bad. If yesterday was any indicator then it looks like that’s not the case because EDSA was monstrous last night.

The reality is that Uber will STAY SUSPENDED for at least the next 30 days. Most of their previous allies have turned on them after they defied the order again when they re-activated after giving their motion for reconsideration. Heck, even an association leader of UBER/GRAB drivers is now saying this is all Uber’s fault.

If you’re a commuter, we suggest you find alternatives already.
