It’s not just artists and creatives that’ll be affected by the AI revolution apparently, as research firm Gartner is signaling that mobile app usage may decrease 25% by 2027 thanks to the increased use of AI assistants like ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Meta AI. Because of how users are starting to lean on these on-device AI more, Gartner predicts that these apps will be consolidated, with developers and companies forced to create mobile app partnerships to reduce the cost of running these apps.
Digital marketers will need to start planning for the loss of first-party data from these apps, as less and less people will continue to engage and use them as they turn to task and search automation via AI.
Gartner also estimates that around 33% of web content will be used for the purposes of generative AI-powered searches, which will negatively affect traffic because of the shift in search algorithms that will have to adjust with changing user preferences.
In addition, the collection of customer data is also set to evolve. By 2027, 85% of customer data will originate from automated interactions or AI-led engagements. The development of more advanced AI agents capable of autonomously executing tasks will enable brands to gather richer, more actionable insights from customer interactions.
