Best Accessories and Peripherals (2017 Round-up)

Best Accessories and Peripherals (2017 Round-up)

Speakers, Headphones, Mouse, Keyboards, and More.

With the holiday season just around the corner I wanted to share my personal top picks for essential gadget peripherals and accessories. Please take note that this is MY list and not an absolute “BEST” that applies for everyone. This is obviously based from the gadgets that I was able to test myself which is limited given the multitude of brands out there in the market.

Let’s get rolling.

Best Wireless Mouse: Logitech MX Master 2S

The Logitech MX Master was hailed all around the world as one of the best mice you can get. It’s successor, the Logitech MX Master 2S, builds on that legacy. Just like the first generation model, this mouse is sculpted to perfection making extremely comfortable to use. Palm and wrist fatigue is reduced dramatically thanks to the fantastic ergonomics making it ideal for power users who rely on heavily on mice for editing and gaming.

Best Wireless Headphones: Sony MDR-1000x

I can’t live without this!
Amazing sound quality, comfortable build, and legendary battery life makes the Sony MDR-1000x the best wireless headphones (with active noise cancelling) I’ve ever tried and owned. You plunge yourself into a world of silence and just melt away in your own world while listening to your favorite playlists. The only downside is that price tag as it retails locally for a whopping Php17,999.

By the way, Sony recently announced the successor to this called the Sony WH-1000XM2. The great news is that apart from the improvements, it will have a slightly cheaper SRP at $350 (Php16,000-Php17,000).

Best Wireless Earphones: Jaybird X3

We’ve been singing praises about the Jaybird X2 ever since we got our hands on them when they were introduced locally by Digital Walker and Beyond the Box. The superb sound quality, fantastic fit, long battery life, and the durable design made it the best wireless earphones for working out. The only drawback then was the price as it was selling for over Php9,000.

Here’s the good news. Digital Walker has already started selling the successor, the Jaybird X3, for just a little over Php6,000. It’s fantastic value for money as we would take this over the Apple AirPods any day.

Best Portable Wireless Speakers: UE Wonderboom

If you’re in the market for a versatile, loud, rich-sounding, long lasting, water resistant, and portable speakers, look no further. The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom is the best bang for your buck. It sells for around Php5,500 at Digital Walker and Beyond the Box stores. Don’t just take our word for it though. Test them out at the stores (they usually have demo units) and listen for yourself. We highly recommend this one over a lot of the other brands you see in the market today, even the ones that sell for twice the price.

Best Keyboard: RAZER BlackWidow Chroma Tournament Edition V2

As you guys can imagine, I do a lot of typing daily because of the work that I do. Over the years I’ve been using mechanical gaming keyboards made by RAZER. The clicking sound of mashing keys combined with the tactile feeling is strangely satisfying making typing long articles and reviews more fun. Last year though RAZER took it to the next level with the BlackWidow Chroma Tournament Edition V2. They added a detachable soft cushion wrist and palm rest which great reduces fatigue.

As it is RAZER, be ready to pay premium. The RAZER BlackWidow Chroma Tournament Edition V2 set me back more than Php6,000.

I haven’t written a full review yet but if you guys want to read a review we made of an older generation RAZER BlackWidow keyboard, click here.

Best Powerbank: Tylt Power Banks

There are hundreds of Power Banks available in the market today. The one that stands above the crowd for me is the Tylt Power Bank with Power Dock. It has Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, you can supercharge it by plugging two micro-USB cables to it, it has a magnetic dock for charging the battery pack (no need for wires), and it just looks amazing.

The Tylt Power Bank with Power Dock retails for Php2,790.

And those are my top picks for the year. Again please remember that these are my PERSONAL PICKS. You probably have your own and I encourage you guys to share them in the comments section below!
