What’s Different with the Helio G100?

When TECNO announced the Camon 30S Pro, what made it stand out is that it debuted a new processor in the form of the Helio G100. Back then, the only thing we know about it is that it has 7% better CPU performance than the Helio G99 and supports 4.5G connectivity–which we presume might be referring to LTE-Advanced.

MediaTek has finally posted more details about and yes: it is an incremental upgrade from the very popular Helio G99. Both chips share the same 6nm process and CPU configuration, which is two Cortex-A76 cores running at 2.2Ghz and six Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.0Ghz. You also get support only for LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage, along with up to a Full HD display.

What’s different then? The Helio G100 adds support for 200-megapixel cameras, which means sensors like the ISOCELL HP3 should work fine with this 4G-only chip. You also get a so-called “Elevator Mode”, which MediaTek explains that it should help quickly restore your 4G/LTE connection in places like elevators or crowded rooms–something that sounds very similar to what OPPO promises with AI Linkboost on its Reno12 5G series.

Aside from those two key changes, everything else remain the same like support for 16-megapixel+16-megapixel dual shooting, 32-megapixel video capture at 30FPS, dual 4G SIM, VoLTE, and ViLTE.
