Apple might have a Solution to the iPhone 17 Air’s Small Battery

The Galaxy S25 Edge’s 3900mAh cell is a compromise with its ultraslim 5.8mm frame, and it might be worse for the upcoming iPhone 17 Air.  With rumors of the iPhone 17 Air being 5.5mm thin and only 145 grams, there are reports that its battery will only be 2800mAh. Aside from being small for a phone with a rumored 6.6-inch display, there are concerns to how many times you’d need to charge it.

Apple used to have an official battery case for its iPhones.

Here are three possible scenarios how Apple will address that: the most plausible solution would be Apple adding AI-powered battery saving features to iOS to help make the iPhone 17 Air last a day of use without a trip to the outlet. Another possible solution is to bring back battery cases just like what Apple used to offer with the iPhone 11 and older models before MagSafe became a thing.

Maybe Apple might beat Samsung in using silicon-carbon batteries.

The most exciting solution Apple can offer–which can potentially one-up Samsung–is that they might use silicon-carbon tech to increase battery capacity by as much as 20%. With that approach, it’s possible for the iPhone 17 Air to have a 3400mAh battery–which is close to the battery capacity of the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro at around 3500mAh.

Another compromise with the iPhone 17 Air is a single rear camera like the iPhone 16e. Apple has yet to confirm the iPhone 17 Air, but we expect it to be unveiled with the rest of the iPhone 17 series.
