MediaTek Launches New Chipset for IoT Devices

Meant for wearables like smartwatches, fitness trackers, etc.

MediaTek’s MT2621 is something quite different. Instead of being geared towards smartphones, MediaTek’s latest chipset is aimed towards wearables and other IoT products. Inside it is a single ARMv7 CPU running at 26 MHz and a 160 KB + 4 MB embedded memory.

Among its features include support for NB-IoT R14 and GSM/GPRS connectivity, along with a support for one SIM card with an antenna for both networks.

In addition, the new chip has Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity, along with support for Linux Apps and LCM, camera and audio AMP interfaces.

Being a different offering from MediaTek, we look forward to seeing devices that will make use of this SoC.
