More phones will be able to use 18:9 aspect ratios in the future
MediaTek has just unveiled a brand-new chipset that’s tailored specifically at the burgeoning market of phones that has skinny bezels and 18:9 aspect ratios. Their newest MT6739 is armed with a quad-core processor, built-in support for dual-cameras and of course, support for resolutions up to 1440 x 720 pixels in 18:9 ratio.
The processor has two Cortex A53 cores running at 1.5GHz, and has an LTE Cat.4 modem plus support for dual SIMs. It can support LPDDR3 memory up to 3GB, eMMC 5.1 storage and has a IMG PowerVR GE8100 GPU that goes up to 570MHz. You can expect phones running the processor to show up at the end of the year.
