Being a brand geared towards the youth, realme has come a long way since debuting in 2018. Fast forward to 2021 in an age of 5G connectivity, realme commits to enabling 100 million young consumers to have access to its 5G phones within 3 years–a promise realme delivered during its virtual 5G summit.
During the summit, realme reiterated its commitment to becoming a key player in the 5G. To emphasize on this, realme launched 14 5G-ready devices in 21 markets in 2020, which accounts for 40% of its product portfolio. realme aims to increase this to over 20 by 2022, with the goal of having 70% of its products consist of 5G-ready devices in over 50 markets.
“Starting with our first 5G model, the realme X50, we have been exploring new design concepts and technical innovations to bring users more slimline and design-rich 5G phones that have a powerful performance. We believe that in the 5G era, helping to accelerate the adoption of this new technology is a crucial mission for realme,” VP and CEO for India and Europe Madhav Sheth said. Recently, realme unveiled its latest affordable 5G phone with the realme 8–a global version of the V13 that launched in China. realme also confirmed that it will be making the 5G-ready GT series available globally by July.
Aside from launching more affordable 5G smartphones, realme plans to set up more than 10 5G pop-up stores across the globe for young consumers to first-hand experience the benefits of 5G connectivity. realme is also committing to invest $300 million globally in the next two years for 5G technology research and product development, as well as in promoting global 5G popularization.
“realme is helping to popularize the technology across many other countries with a series of compelling products with great specifications at surprisingly affordable prices,” Counterpoint Research VP and Co-founder Peter Richardson said during the summit.
