realme GT3 Camera Performance: How does it Perform?

realme is how off its heels at MWC 2023 with the unveiling of the GT3 as the phone with the fastest charging speed at 240w. While its insane charging speed is the main highlight, the realme GT3 also gets an upgrade in the camera department with a new sensor for the main camera.

Despite having roughly the same camera setup as its predecessor, we took the realme GT3 to the test–fresh from its unveiling in Barcelona–and assess its camera performance.

The camera setup

Compared to the GT 2, the GT3 uses the same 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera and 2-megapixel macro camera–though realme markets the latter as a microscope camera. The main difference with the GT3 is with the main camera: this time around, it uses an IMX890 sensor.

While the IMX890 also has a 1/1.56 sensor size like the IMX766 used on the GT2, it is a better sensor since the IMX890 can shoot in full 50-megapixel resolution at up to 30FPS. Paired with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, the realme GT3 is snappier in taking photos compared to its predecessor. Like the GT2, the GT3’s main camera also has OIS on board.

Sample photos and general impressions

In the brief time we had with the realme GT3 in testing its camera performance, the photos we took have generally good dynamic range and are not too aggressive with post-processing. The colors are accurate, and the GT3 does not overdo the color saturation and brightness in scenarios that have bright colors.

With indoor shooting, the realme GT3’s main camera does a good job in preserving detail in the shadow areas, though we noticed that the IMX890 does a slightly better job compared to the IMX766.

Overall, we can say that the IMX890 does offer improvements over the tried-and-tested IMX766, though we will need to do more tests to further confirm our findings.
