TECNO Reveals Phantom Ultimate Rollable Concept

TECNO Reveals Phantom Ultimate Rollable Concept

Time does fly, and it was only early this year when TECNO revealed the Phantom Vision V concept phone that folds and slides. Fast forward to August, TECNO unveils a second concept called the Phantom Ultimate, which is similar to the Phantom Vision V without the foldable part.

TECNO explains in the design concept of the Phantom Ultimate that its display can increase from 6.55 inches to 7.11 inches in around 1.3 seconds. To make that possible, TECNO uses a single-drive motor system that rolls the display outwards with the press of a button. The extra screen is utilized as an Always-On Display when not being used in the back.

Aside from having a part of the display assembly, the textured back panel has a triple rear camera setup. Being a concept device, TECNO did not reveal any details about it. Instead, the brand revealed details about the rollable display, which is a 7.11-inch on-cell LTPO AMOLED display with a 2296×1596 resolution and a 100% DCI-P3 gamut coverage–though this is hard to verify since it’s a concept product.

While rollable devices aren’t new–Motorola and OPPO have showcased rollable phone concepts in the past, and we were able to try out the latter in person–TECNO’s bragging right with the Phantom Ultimate is that it is just 9.93mm thick at its base. That makes it relatively thin considering all the components needed to make the rollable display function properly. TECNO also claims that you can hold the Phantom Ultimate with one hand and that the sliding area is protected by glass.
