Xiaomi, the brand that sells everything from phones, scooters to headphones and air fryers, has just managed to do what every car brand dreams of: they’ve managed to set a record lap at the Nurburgring for EVs with their SU7 Ultra.

To be fair, Xiaomi’s record-breaking feat was done with a pre-production, SU7 Ultra prototype that looks to be race-spec, meaning the interior has been completely gutted out (which removes a lot of weight). The car that broke the Nurburgring record for fastest electric 4-door sedan is very unlikely to be the same Xiaomi SU7 Ultra that customers will receive when they start rolling off the assembly floor.
That being said, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra that did take to the Nordschleife managed to do so in just 6 minutes and 48.874 seconds. That’s an impressive feat by itself, but as commenters on the YouTube video point out, the car managed to achieve that during wet conditions, and with a loss of power when the accelerator pedal got jammed for a few seconds.
The SU7 Ultra makes 1,548 horsepower from its tri-motor, and has a top speed of 349 KM/h. The non-ultra versions of the SU7 has been flying off the lots of Xiaomi in China, and there’s now a massive wait list of it, with customers having to wait up to 7 months to get theirs if they order.
