For its initial Gigabit fiber internet offerings, PLDT will have four plans that include 1Gbps, 2.5Gbps, 5Gbps, and 10Gbps. On to of that, these high-end internet plans will be bundled with devices like WiFi 6 Mesh Routers, video streaming services, and even cybersecurity protection frok Kaspersky for 2 years.

Just like with its 1Gbps plan almost a decade ago, PLDT’s Gigabit plans will be initially offered to select customers and will be made available to more areas eventually.

PLDT adds that having a 10Gbps plan in the Philippines is a milestone, as such internet plans are only available in developed countries like Norway, the US, and South Korea, where their average internet speeds are significantly faster.

While it remains to be seen how many Filipinos will avail of PLDT’s Gigabit fiber plans, De la Cruz said that their new service will cater to power users that consume at least 5TB of data monthly–which is way above the consumer average of 550.2GB a month. De la Cruz adds that they anticipate the demand for Gigabit fiber internet to increase, with Filipinos migrating most of their essential and leisure activities online and with some building smart homes that include multiple interconnected devices.

“What we are doing is the equivalent of the transition to 5G from 4G in mobile communication. We are pushing the boundary in internet access in the Philippines, giving the Filipino consumer a taste of first-world connectivity,” De la Cruz said.

Prior to this announcement, Converge took over PLDT’s title as the best internet provider in the Philippines in 2023–a title that PLDT held for 5 years.
