You Can Now Use GCash in China

With GCash celebrating 20 years, the fintech app has reached places already. During the gala last October 10, Globe Group CEO Ernest Cu is proud of what GCash has attained: from having a valuation of $100 million in 2017, GCash is now valued at $5 billion in 2024 following Mitsubishi UFJ Financial purchasing an $800 million stake. Aside from reaching that milestone, it was announced that GCash has expanded in China.

“I can tell you GCash works with any Alipay merchant in China,” Cu said during the gala.

This means that if you’re traveling to China, you can use GCash for any transactions as long as it is affiliated with Alipay. Before the announcement, you have to link your GCash to the Alipay app in order to use it for transactions.

This major development opens GCash to hundreds of millions of merchants, with China being one of the biggest markets globally. With around 94 million users as of 2024, GCash’s next goal is to explore more international markets. Japan is one of the countries where you can use GCash and other countries where you can use GCash include South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau, Qatar, the UAE, the USA, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
