MRT-3 Now Accepts GCash QR Payments

MRT-3 commuters get a new payment option, as DoTR announced that cashless payments via GCash is now accepted. This is currently on a pilot run across all MRT-3 stations, where commuters can pay using GCash via QRPh payments for single journey tickets. Since it uses QRPh, digital banking and eWallet apps that support QRPh can also be used as a mode of payment.

This initiative aims to promote faster, easier, and more secure ways to pay for train rides, and is also in line with the directive of President Bongbong Marcos to modernize public transport and improve passenger convenience. This is also a step forward promoting cashless payments at the Philippines’ public transportation options. Prior to this, Maya offered the option to buy single-journey LRT-1 tickets through their app.

DOTr will be getting feedback from commuters during the pilot period, as they plan to expand digital payment options in the future.

Aside from the MRT-3 and LRT-1, those riding the BGC Bus can pay their fares using any Mastercard debit or credit card thanks to a partnership with Beep. AF Payments (parent company of Beep) President and CEO JJ Moreno told us last November that they plan to add support for Mastercard products for MRT-3 and EDSA buses in the future.
