If you’re wondering what’s the most popular streaming platform in the Philippines, a report from JustWatch reveals that for the first quarter of 2024 in the Philippines, Netflix remains to be dominant with 34% of the market share.
While Netflix’s dominance in the Philippines is expected at this point, what surprised us that neither Disney+, HBO Go, or Prime Video came in at second: instead, it is iflix that took second place with a market share of 22%. Prime Video is a distant third with 15%, while Disney+ has a very small market share in the Philippines at 5%.
You’d be probably wondering how iflix made it to second place–it’s been integrated into WeTV ever since it was purchased by Tencent back in 2020. One of the reasons iflix has a market share is because users get to watch most shows for free–with one of its content highlights being its healthy selection Filipino Teleseryes like Ang Probinsyano.Â
Those who want to enjoy watching without adds only need to pay Php 65 a month, while those who want extra perks like being able to watch on 2 devices simultaneously, enjoy Full HD resolution, and get access to exclusive content only need to pay Php 199 a month for the VIP subscription.
When it comes to market share growth for the first quarter of 2024, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO Go experienced a growth of 1%, while Disney+ experienced at decline of -1%. Disney+’s small market share might decreas further especially with the recent price hikes for its subscription plans.
