Samsung Officially Releases Mid-range Galaxy A55 5G In The Philippines With Competitive Price

Samsung’s A-series of phones may have a lot of haters, but it was the best-selling phone series in the world, with the mid-range Galaxy A54 5G coming second only to Samsung’s own Galaxy A14 4G according to Canalys. So unsurprisingly Samsung has released its next generation mid-range Galaxy A55 5G in the Philippines and the company is coming out swinging because it has a competitive price especially if you consider the pricing for the A54 5G last year.

The Galaxy A55 5G comes with a design that looks a lot like the Galaxy S24, though Samsung has made several key changes to the body of their new mid-range phone to modernize it for 2024. For one thing, the chassis and frame of the A55 5G is now aluminum, a first for Samsung’s mid-range offering. It also gets a higher IP rating of IP67, though it’s still not rated for extended trips to the pool.

The camera module stays the same as the Galaxy A54 since the phone has a 50-megapixel main camera, 12-megapixel ultra-wide, and a 5-megapixel macro cam, but the phone gets new software tricks like the ability to remove unwanted subjects in the background of your photos, ala the Galaxy S24.

As far as hardware goes the phone gets an Exynos 1480 processor, along with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for the Philippine market. An 8GB/128GB variant will also be made available, but that will be specifically for the telco market only.

We’ve spent a few days with the phone and while people will dismiss the Exynos 1480 simply because it’s made by Samsung and carries the Exynos name, the processor in this phone is pretty potent. We were able to play Genshin Impact on High settings with no obvious signs of stuttering or problems, which is pretty impressive considering where Samsung was a few years ago.

Samsung Galaxy A55 5G Price Philippines

The Samsung Galaxy A55 5G has a price of Php 24,990 in the Philippines, around 1K less than what the Samsung Galaxy A54 did when it retailed in the Philippines last year. Samsung will be doing a trade-in promo for qualifying phones, which will allow you to knock off Php 5,000 off of the price of the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G.
