YouTube Premium is Now More Expensive

After we confirmed that YouTube Premium would be more expensive in the Philippines last August, the video streaming platform made the new prices official on its website. To recap, the price hike for the Individual Plan is Php 40, while the Family Plan gets a bigger increase by Php 140. The Student Plan also gets a hefty price hike of Php 40.

Aside from all YouTube Premium plans being more expensive, the Individual Plan now has a two-month trial period for first-time subscribers, which is most likely Google’s way to let its users test the waters and see if YouTube Premium is worth it (spoiler alert: it is still worth it).

One thing to take note of about these new prices: these might change later on with President Bongbong Marcos signing into law VAT charges for all digital services. At 12% VAT, we’re looking at a possible increase of Php 23 for the Individual plan and a Php 46 increase for the Family Plan. We’re not sure how Youtube will factor in the additional VAT, but it’s best to be prepared for another round of price hikes in the next few months.

While the price hike would translate to YouTube Premium being priced closely to Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video in the Philippines, do note that YouTube Premium also includes access to YouTube Music–which is an excellent alternative to Spotify and Apple Music.
