Trump Highlights $500 Billion Investment on AI Development

After a filled week under the administration of US President Donald Trump that include rescinding the Executive Order on AI Safety and delaying TikTok’s ban in the US by 75 days, the latest development involves Trump highlighting a joint investment with OpenAI, Oracle and SoftBank worth as much as $500 billion for building new AI infrastructures.

The said entity is called Stargate, and it will start with building data centers and the electricity needed to power it in Texas, and the initial investment is $100. Trump proclaimed that the said investment is proof of “a resounding declaration of confidence in America’s potential” with AI under his administration. Those present during the announcement are SoftBank’s Masayoshi Son, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, and Oracle’s Larry Ellison.

Ellison said that there are 10 data centers being built so far, and that the project will also be used for digital health records to make it easier to treat diseases—and possibly develop a vaccine. Altman adds that it will be one of the most important projects of this era.

While Trump claims that his administration aims to boost the US economy, there are risks with the development of AI, which include displacing jobs.
