The Pixel 8a is Affordable, But is Not Coming to the Philippines

Apple is not the only one that’s busy last night, as Google also unveiled the Pixel 8a in the US. While it’s not going to be available in the Philippines yet again, the Pixel 8a appears to be an interesting mid-range phone.

Despite being more of a mid-range device, the Pixel 8a enjoys the same level of software support as the rest of the Pixel 8 series: 7 years of major Android upadates, Security Updates, and Feature Drops. That’s hands down the best software commitment one can get on a mid-range device.

Like the other Pixel 8 phones, the Pixel 8a is powered by Google’s Tensor G3 processor and is paired with 8GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage–though going for this storage option limits you to only the black color. The display is a 6.1-inch 120hz OLED panel, making the Pixel 8a a compact device we wished is made available in the Philippines. The Pixel 8a’s aluminum frame has rounded corners, and the display bezels are rather thick for 2024 standards–and remind us of the Galaxy A54.

You get a dual-rear camera system that consists of a 64-megapixel main camera with OIS and 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera–with both capable of shooting 4K video at 60FPS. The selfie shooter is a 13-megapixel camera and can shoot 4K video at 30FPS. You are getting most of the Pixel 8’s suite of software features that include Magic Editor, Best Take, Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Face Unblur, Real Tone, Top Shot, Live HDR+ and Ultra HDR.

Keeping the lights on is a 4492mAh battery that supports 18w wired charging and Qi wireless charging. Other features of the Pixel 8a include stereo speakers, in-display fingerprint scanner, IP67 rating, and WiFi 6.

If you plan to import a Google Pixel 8a abroad and accept limitations like not having 5G compatibility in the Philippines, the 128GB variant is priced at $499(~Php 29k), while the 256GB variant is priced at $559(~Php 32k).
