Huawei Enters Midrange Foldable Segment with nova Flip

As the leader in foldables, Huawei wants to make the form factor more accessible to everyone–similar to what nubia, Motorola, and TECNO have in mind. For its midrange offering, Huawei officially unveiled the nova Flip in China with bold colors and a fashion forward approach.

Like the more expensive Pocket 2, the nova Flip utilizes a waterdrop hinge that’s rated for as much as 1.2 million bends and has a thickness of 6.88mm in its unfolded state. Huawei went for a different approach with the cover display, where you have a 2.14-inch square OLED display that sits beside the two cameras–50-megapixel RYYB main and 8-megapixel ultra-wide. Aside from doubling as a camera viewfinder, the cover display is used to display important information.

The inner display is a large 6.94-inch LTPO OLED panel with a 120hz variable refresh rate and a punch-hole for a 32-megapixel selfie shooter. Like with other flip foldable phones, the nova Flip settles for a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

While Huawei did not disclose the chip powering the nova Flip, it is speculated to use a Kirin 8000 processor that’s used on the nova 12 series. The RAM is also not disclosed as well, but storage options include 256GB, 512GB, ana 1TB. Keeping the lights on is a 4400mAh battery that supports 66w charging.

The pricing for the nova Flip starts at CNY 5288(~Php 43k) for the 256GB model and goes up to CNY 6488(~Php 53k) for the 1TB variant. It will go on sale in China on August 10, and it remains to be seen if Huawei will make the nova Flip available globally.
