While realme’s special announcement involves their new slogan “Make it Real”, it seems that realme has a couple of exciting things in the coming weeks. Right before 2023 concluded, realme announced the GT5 Pro, a true flagship with its periscope telephoto camera replacing the usual filler cameras we see on previous GT models.
We’re not sure the GT5 Pro will be available outside of China, but rumors about the realme 12 Pro series got us excited.
Recently, a TENAA listing revealed renders of the realme 12 Pro series, which looks similar to the GT5 Pro with the large circular camera module in the middle. Making the design different is the accent stripe in the middle, similar to what we saw on the realme 11 Pro series. A closer look at the realme 12 Pro+ (the orange phone) appears to have a periscope camera, which is a first for the brand’s numbered series.
According to Digital Chat Station, the realme 12 Pro will use a 32-megapixel IMX709 2x telephoto camera–the same one you’d find on the Reno10 and Reno10 Pro, while the realme 12 Pro+ will use a 64-megapixel OV64B 3x periscope camera–a camera you’d find on the Reno10 Pro+ and OnePlus 12. The addition of telephoto cameras should make both realme 12 Pro variants exciting in the mid-range segment, fulfilling our wish for a filler camera-free setup.
We’re still waiting for more details about the both phones, but the fact that they will finally ditch those 2-megapixel filler cameras for actual telephoto cameras got us excited for realme’s numbered series.
