realme is Stepping Up its Camera Game with the GT5 Pro

Following announcements from Xiaomi, vivo, OPPO, and HONOR, realme is getting ready to debut a new phone in China with the flagship GT5 Pro, which is slated for a December 7 launch. realme has confirmed that the GT5 Pro will come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor like the Xiaomi 14 series–but the more interesting bit is the cameras, particularly the telephoto shooter.

For the GT5 Pro, realme will be equipping it with a periscope camera that uses an IMX890 sensor. realme has used the IMX890 on phones like the GT3, but this will be the first time that they will utilize it on a periscope camera. We were able to try out the GT3 early this year, and the IMX890 main camera proved to perform well when we took it around in Barcelona.

It’s also worth noting that it has been a while that realme equipped any of its phones with a periscope camera: the last realme device to have it was the X3 Superzoom, which had an 8-megapixel f/3.4 periscope camera with 5x optical zoom. While the GT5 Pro’s periscope camera only has 3x optical zoom, it has a brighter f/2.6 aperture and both OIS and EIS. realme even claims that the periscope camera can do up to 120x digital zoom with tweaks from Qualcomm and Arcsoft.

realme did not mention whether the GT5 Pro will have a global launch. However, we hope to see periscope cameras on other realme devices that are slated for the global market.
