The ASUS ZenFone 4 Family: All We Know

The ASUS ZenFone 4 Family: All We Know

The next generation of ZenFone smartphones from ASUS

The ASUS ZenFone 4 series of handsets is officially slated to launch on August 19, a few days from now. What better way to prepare for the major event than to do a quick wrap-up review on what to expect from ASUS’s newest smartphone lineup? Here’s what we’ve got on the ASUS ZenFone 4 family, based on official sources, reliable leaks, and speculation from the rumor mill.

The ZenFone 4 family will have at least 5 main variants

ASUS’s next generation ZenFone smartphones will be divided into at least 5 main models: the ASUS ZenFone 4, ZenFone 4 Pro, ZenFone 4 Max, ZenFone 4 Selfie, and the ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro. Some of these handsets will be featuring versions with different hardware configurations as well, such as the ZenFone 4 and the ZenFone 4 Max.

ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro

The base ZenFone 4 phone is tipped to come in two flavors – a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 version and a more expensive but more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 version. The ZenFone 4 Pro is expected to replace last year’s Deluxe model and will be equipped with a premium tier Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor and high-end specifications. Both variants will be sporting dual rear cameras, with the Pro version’s setup boasting a 2x optical zoom module.

ASUS ZenFone 4 Max

The ZenFone 4 Max, which focuses on battery life, is speculated to be available in three versions with varying sizes, panel resolutions, chipsets, and possibly battery packs, as well. The high-end variant of the ZF4 Max was officially introduced early in July, with leaks pointing to a cheaper version for emerging markets and possibly a mid-tier model. Supposedly, all of these phones will be geared with dual rear snappers as well.

ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie

The ZenFone 4 Selfie and Selfie Pro will both be featuring dual cameras too but positioned at the front. The Selfie variant is gossiped to be packing low mid-tier specs, while the Selfie Pro version will be shipping with high mid-end hardware. The handsets are ASUS’s answer to rivals OPPO and Vivo’s dual-selfie offerings.

The ZenFone 4’s pricing scheme

The ZF4’s pricing details came from a widely-spread leak a week ago, so at best, it’s worth a bucket of sodium. According to the leaked information, here’s how ASUS plans to tag some of the ZenFone 4 devices:

  • ASUS ZenFone 4 (Snapdragon 630 version) – $364 (~Php 18,200)
  • ASUS ZenFone 4 (Snapdragon 660 version) – $463 (~Php 23,150)
  • ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro – $629 (~Php 31,450)
  • ASUS ZenFone 4 Max (5.5-inch, Full HD version) – $198 (~Php 9,900)
  • ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie – $330 (~Php 16,500)

No rumors yet for the Selfie Pro’s pricing and the pricing for the other variants of the Max. Note that these are direct currency conversions, so it’s highly likely that ASUS Philippines will be changing the pricing scheme for the local market.

Considering these prices, and the fact that all phones have dual cameras, whether rear or front oriented, do you think ASUS will see considerable sales with their new ZenFone 4 smartphones? Post your thoughts below, readers!
