The Galaxy Z Fold5 Has Cameras that Matches the Find X3 Pro

While the Galaxy Z Fold5 basically uses the same set of cameras found on the Z Fold4, people are probably wondering: are the updated internals enough to make the Galaxy Z Fold5 perform better than its predecessor?

DxOMark recently put the Galaxy Z Fold5 to the test, and gave it a score of 128. For reference, that’s 5 points lower than the Pixel Fold, which DxOMark touted as having the best cameras in a foldable based on their reviews. In comparison to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold4, the Z Fold5 did improve by 5 points. Overall, the performance of the cameras on the Galaxy Z Fold5 is at par with the 2021 Find X3 Pro and just a point below the Xiaomi 12 Pro, 12T Pro, and Huawei P40 Pro.

Considering that the Galaxy Z Fold5 is an incremental update to the Z Fold4–with key changes being on the internals and the redesigned hinge–it’s still a good showing for the 2023 Samsung foldable.

Going through DxOMark’s critique of the Galaxy Z Fold5, they praised the foldable’s camera for its good exposure and wide dynamic range, along with excellent performance in video when it comes to detail, color rendering, and exposure transitions. This makes the Galaxy Z Fold5 a suitable device for shooting video–especially since you can shoot up to 8K resolution or 4K60 with it.

As for points for improvement, DxOMark explained that the Galaxy Z Fold5’s autofocus performance can be inconsistent in low light conditions and that there are slight white balance inconsistencies when shooting in daylight.

Overall, the Galaxy Z Fold5 does show improvements in overall camera performance compared to its predecessor–again, despite using the same camera hardware.
