When you talk about foldable devices, one does not really expect them to have stellar camera performance–after all, their main selling point is their form factor. However, Google appears to make its Pixel Fold a performer with its cameras.
According to DxOMark’s review, the Pixel Fold scored 133 for its cameras, making it at par with the Galaxy S23 and S23+ and iPhone 14 and 14 Plus. That’s a feat for the Pixel Fold considering its triple rear camera setup pales in comparison to those found on premium flagship devices. To recap, the setup consists of a 48-megapixel f/1.7 main camera with OIS, a 10.8-megapixel f/2.2 ultrawide, and a 10.8-megapixel f/3.05 telephoto with 5x optical zoom.
In DxOMark’s evaluation, they said that while the Pixel Fold is great for taking landscapes, the same cannot be said for portraits. Perhaps, the Pixel Fold does not have the sophisticated portrait mode of its non-foldable siblings. Overall exposure and dynamic range, on the other hand, are great on the Pixel Fold though noise is prominent in low-light and backlit siituation.
Despite the noise levels in low-light scenarios, DxOMark lauded the Pixel Fold’s autofocus performance, which they describe to be fast and accurate–something that cannot be said with most foldable phones in the market right now.
When it comes to videos, the Pixel Fold has excellent video stabilization though exposure and white balance can be inconsistent in all conditions–something that the Pixel Fold can possibly improve on through software updates.
