The Lenovo Legion Play Might Be a Reality as the Legion Go

While Lenovo did not push through with the Legion Play–despite prototypes making their way in the grey market, Lenovo is reportedly working on a Legion Go gaming handheld, making it the latest PC brand to enter the gaming handheld space.

According to Windows Central’s sources, the upcoming Legion gaming handheld will have similarities with the Legion Play, with the obvious exception being that it will be using Windows 11 instead of Android. Aside from that, it will be significantly more powerful with its use of AMD’s new Phoenix 7040 series processors which are said to be designed for ultrabooks.

While the design may be more or less the same, Windows Central reports that the Legion Go will have an 8-inch display, which is larger than what the Legion Play offered. With its use of AMD’s Phoenix processor, the Legion Go should be able to support 15w TDP for better battery life.

With this new report, it makes sense why Lenovo did not push through with the Legion Play despite teasing it back in 2021. While an Android gaming handheld would be a nice option, the standards that have been set by the likes of the Steam Deck and ROG Ally prove that native PC gaming is still better than cloud-based gaming like what Logitech has with its G Cloud gaming handheld.
