It has been a while since Xiaomi overtook Apple regarding global sales. The last time that happened was back in 2021, and Xiaomi is back in second place in 2024 based on the latest report from Counterpoint.
Xiaomi was able to overtake Apple in August, as it was able to enjoy strong growth over the past year–with Counterpoint crediting the brand’s more streamlined product strategy and its expansion to the Latin America region as factors to its continuous growth.
As for which phones drove most of the sales, the majority is with its affordable 5G phones under the Redmi 13 and Redmi Note 13 series. Xiaomi’s Redmi line has been popular across its key markets, especially in India, Latin America, Southeast Asia and Middle East and Africa.
While Xiaomi is strong in the entry and midrange segment, it is also doing well in the premium segment with its foldables and “Ultra” devices. Recently, Xiaomi unveiled the MIX Flip and MIX Fold 4 in China as it is among the brands that is pushing for more foldables in the market.
