Foldable phones have been a growing market since Samsung debuted the Galaxy Fold in 2019. While we got several book-style foldable phones, 2024 has to be the year when the more compact, flip-type foldable phone is getting popular. While the Galaxy Z Flip6 is the hottest model right now, we recall several brands launching their flip phones for 2024 alone–with more expected to launch later this year.
Let’s round up all the new flip phones that launched in 2024, along with upcoming models:
Huawei Pocket 2
Kicking off the series of new flip phones for 2024 is the Pocket 2 from Huawei. While it is exclusive to China, what makes this flip phone interesting is how Huawei managed to squeeze in a total of four cameras inside that small circular module: a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, 8-megapixel telephoto with 3x optical zoom and OIS, and a 2-megapixel “hyperspectral camera”. If that’s not insane enough, the Pocket 2 even comes with a 4520mAh battery, putting Samsung’s new flip phone to shame.
nubia Flip 5G
While the Phantom V Flip is the most affordable flip phone in the Philippines to date, nubia wants to challenge that with the $600 global price of the Flip 5G. It does look similar to the Phantom V Flip, but you get a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor inside and a rather beefy 4310mAh battery. It does feel more like a mid-ranger with its 50-megapixel main camera and 33w charging–two features that the Phantom V is better.
HONOR Magic V Flip
Following the footsteps of OPPO and vivo, HONOR also unveiled its own flip phone. If their Magic V2 has the bragging rights of being the slimmest foldable to date (until the Magic V3 goes official), the Magic V Flip boasts a huge 4-inch wraparound cover display that allows you to use most of the phone’s functions without needing to open the phone. We got word that this one is going global–but it remains to be seen if HONOR has plans to bring the Magic V Flip to the Philippines.
Motorola RAZR 2024 series
Just like last year, Motorola has two new flip phones: both do have wraparound cover displays, but the RAZR+ 2024 gets the bigger 4-inch cover display and a flagship Snapdragon 8s Gen 3–the regular RAZR 2024 debuted the Dimensity 7300X, which is MediaTek’s first dedicated processor for foldables. Both RAZR phones are available for the global market, but we’re puzzled why Motorola has no plans yet to bring either model to the Philippines.
Galaxy Z Flip6
Of course, talking about flip phones is not complete without Samsung, which just announced the Galaxy Z Flip6. It is the most expensive flip phone in the market with a Php 71k starting price but is the most powerful one with its use of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor–specifically one that’s overclocked and optimized for Galaxy devices. There’s no fancy wraparound cover display here, but with 7 years of software updates, it’s hard to question why Samsung remains the king of flip phones.
Other Flip Phones to Watch Out in 2024
Samsung may be enjoying the moment with the official unveiling of the Galaxy Z Flip6, but more flip phones are coming later this year. Xiaomi is one of them, with the Mix Flip confirmed to be made available globally. TECNO is working on their Phantom V2 Flip with better specs, and Infinix might surprise everyone with the rumors about the ZERO Flip.
Aside from those three brands, we’re also expecting OPPO to unveil a successor to the Find N3 Flip, which is approaching a year old soon. We’re also waiting for vivo to announce a new flip phone–but it has been over a year since the X Flip and we haven’t heard anything new from them.
