Twitter Blue Subscribers Can Now Upload Two-Hour-Long Videos

With Twitter Blue making its way in the Philippines, the common application users may wonder if the paid subscription service is even worth it. The app is doing all it can to give you the best bang for your buck when it comes to hopping onboard. That’s why this latest feature was just added to Twitter Blue: the ability to upload two-hour-long videos. Here’s what it’s all about.

If you’re the type to upload cinematic-length videos on Twitter, then subscribing to Blue might be a reasonable option for you. But of course, there are still some technical requirements that need to be met.

The videos must firstly be in 1080p at the very most. That ensures that filesizes won’t overwhelm the servers, while the common Twitter user on mobile data can still watch the content. There isn’t much incentive for 4K video streaming yet since most would go to YouTube for that anyways. On smartphones or tablets, the difference between Full HD and 4K isn’t game-changing enough to justify it. Speaking of filesize, the cap is set at a hefty 8GB. That’s a generous amount of data, given that most Full HD movie files only reach 2-3GB at the most.

In terms of devices, only Twitter Blue users on the website or iOS app can upload these two-hour-long videos. Subscribers on Android are currently limited to the 10-minute duration, while those who aren’t subscribed to Twitter Blue will have to settle for 140 seconds.

Here are the instructions as listed on the official site:

As a Twitter Blue subscriber, how do I upload longer videos?

  1. On twitter.com, use the compose box, or click the Tweet button.
  2. Click the gallery button.
  3. Choose a video file stored on your device and click Open. You’ll be prompted if the video isn’t in a supported format. Videos must be shorter than 2 hours with up to 8GB file size.
  4. Complete your message and click Tweet to share your Tweet and video.

Another sidenote to consider is that Twitter reserves the right to modify, adapt, or alter videos for further distribution, publication, or broadcast. Also, the playback may also be affected by the viewers’ internet connection and data saver settings.

With all things considered, is it worthwhile to subscribe to Twitter Blue for this all-new videos feature? What do you think?
