Here’s what really made the Starmobile Knight X awesome for us
If you haven’t heard, Starmobile came out with their newest octa-core flagship, the Knight X, a few days ago. After sitting down and doing a hands-on of the smartphone, we’ve decided to share the things that we really liked about the new flagship.
(You can read our hands-on with the Knight X here!)
1. It has the most RAM out of any local device today
At 3GB, the Starmobile Knight X has the most RAM of the devices being sold by other local brands today. It also has more RAM than the other devices being sold by international brands today. That contributes to the overall smoothness of the device as you use it, giving you more performance than other devices with less RAM.
2. It is one of the few devices today that’s running the new MediaTek 6595m octa-core processor
Instead of going with MediaTek’s old, tried and tested MTK6592 processor, the Knight X is powered by the company’s newest MTK6595m processor. That makes the Knight X one of the few devices today that has this awesome SoC, which has managed to impress us with its performance (albeit on slightly faster variant). In this regard, Starmobile is an innovator, as it’s one of the only local brands worldwide that’s managed to ship a smartphone using the new processor – even Starmobile’s ODM admits that they haven’t released a MTK6595m powered-smartphone to its other clients as of yet. The new SoC makes the Knight X the fastest local smartphone brand in the market today – until Cherry Mobile, MyPhone, et. al start making their own devices based on the new SoC.
3. Dual SIM, Dual LTE
One of the things we’re really psyched about the Knight X is its dual SIM, dual LTE capability. There’s only one other smartphone in the PH market that does that, and it’s not from a local player. It’s a really convenient feature, as you can now have two LTE SIM slots in your phone from both telcos and just switch to the fastest one at your location when you’re itching for fast internet.
4. More features than your regular flagship
There’s always this big temptation to settle when it comes to releasing flagships. Sometimes it’s easier to just put in a fast new SoC inside a smartphone, put enough RAM in it and call it a day. Starmobile didn’t go that route of course, and decided to stuff the Knight X with several features that adds to the overall functionality of the device. The Knight X also has NFC inside, as well as an IR Blaster, which allows you to control devices like TVs, Blu-ray players, media streamers – almost anything that uses a remote control. There’s also USB OTG on tap that allows you to supplement the non-expandable 32GB of storage (that’s already partitioned properly allowing you to use every last GB the way you choose).
5. Large battery
If there’s one thing we hate, it’s running out of battery, and thankfully Starmobile has learned that octa-core smartphones need more than 2,000mAh to last around a day. The Knight X has a rather large 3350mAh – that’s more than the one in Meizu’s MX4 which also has more or less the same SoC as the Knight X. So we’re expecting the Knight X to have roughly the same battery consumption (maybe less, since it’s running slightly slower) than the MX4.
So, that’s it. We’re really excited about Starmobile’s Knight X, since it’s one of those smartphones that is fit to be called “halimaw”. We’re not entirely sure yet how much this will be (we’re really hoping for aggressive pricing from Starmobile), and we’re really anticipating the arrival of the review unit so we can see just what it can do.
