Internet connection speed and stability have always been such a problem and hassle for us in the Philippines. But did you know that the Philippines is actually at the top 5 in terms of fixed broadband internet in Southeast Asia? Read more to find out which countries have even slower internet than us.
According to the September Speedtest Global Index Report by Ookla, the Philippines has a median download speed of 78.69Mbps and a median upload speed of 74.91 Mbps. Singapore unsurprisingly snags the top position with Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place.
“The Philippines has been steadily climbing in the rankings on the Speedtest Global Index. This is on account of the Philippine operators’ investments to modernize and upgrade their copper infrastructure and the active migration of customers to fiber, as well as connecting many first-time users,” Ookla principal analyst Sylwia Kechiche said.
On the other hand, mobile internet in the Philippines has a median download speed of 22.54mbps and an upload speed of 5.65mbps.
New Broadband Service
In other news, it has been confirmed that Data Lake Inc., a firm by Henry Sy Jr. and businessman Anthony Almeda, will be bringing the Starlink satellite broadband service to the Philippines.
Despite all these developments, the Philippines is still far from having the fastest internet connection in Southeast Asia. At least, we’ve come a very long way.
