Apart from both Smart and Globe formally announcing that they’re ditching Unlimited data plans in favor of volume based data buckets during the Senate Hearing on slow PH Internet, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) also shared that they will be doing regular speed tests using their own tools to verify the speed claims of both telcos.
The results of the speed tests will be published in the website of the NTC. Customers can then use the data published on the tests to complain to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for False Advertising. If found guilty, the telcos can be penalised anywhere from Php500-Php300,000. On top of that the NTC will also charge telcos Php200 per day for the violation.
Seriously NTC? Php200? To quote your beloved President:
“Eh di wow.” -President Noynoy Aquino
Unless that Php200 is PER subscriber. Now that’s a delicious penalty, haha! Imagine if there were 10,000,000 complaints and all of them were legit and the time period was just one week. That’s a Php20,000,000,000 penalty. WOOOHOOOOOOOO!
