Months ago, it was already reported that CALAX Subsection 5 will open in the third quarter of this year. True enough, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) was able to deliver on its promise. The Silang Section of the Cavite Laguna Expressway (CALAX) is now open starting today, August 24.
On his official Facebook page, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar announced the opening of the newest subsection of CALAX. The Silang section will cut travel time from SLEX going to Silang, Cavite from the current one hour down to just 30 minutes. It’s a 7.2km and 2×2 lane expressway that will link Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road to Silang, Cavite. This section alone will serve an estimated 5,000 vehicles daily.
DPWH Secretary Mark Villar once said that he is happy about the overall progress of Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) Subsection 5. In his own words: “I am very pleased that despite the mobility challenges brought about by the pandemic, construction for CALAX Subsection 5 remains on track and could soon be made available to motorists in the third quarter of 2021. It is a vital portion of CALAX that could help accelerate the economic progress of Region IV-A, as it links the two provinces of Cavite and Laguna.”
He further added that the DPWH is exerting every effort in the acquisition of right-of-way for all the remaining segments of CALAX to be able to deliver the entire project by the end of 2022.
Upon completion of the entire CALAX project, it will span 45-kilometers with eight interchanges at Kawit, Governor’s Drive, Open Canal, Silang (Aguinaldo) Highway, Silang East, Santa Rosa-Tagaytay, Laguna Boulevard, and Laguna Technopark. It will serve about 45,000 vehicles while cutting travel time between Cavite and Laguna from 2 hours to just under an hour. Prior to the opening of the Silang Section, the operational segments of CALAX run from Mamplasan in Binan to Sta. Rosa, Laguna, serving about 10,000 vehicles daily.
