SoundPEATS Mini Pro Review: So Comfy, You’ll Forget They’re On

Review Verdict: The SoundPEATS Mini Pro earbuds in this review fit the bill for an extremely well-rounded pair of wireless buds. They’re tiny and lightweight, which attribute to their comfort for prolonged listening sessions. Additionally, they provide stellar audio quality and strong ANC performance for the price.

Pros

  • Very comfortable and lightweight
  • Impressive sound signature, ANC
  • Easy to use touch controls

Cons

  • App could use some more polish
  • No IP rating

Now in 2022, an abundance of TWS buds has been released by several brands. As one of the most well-renowned manufacturers of affordable quality options, has SoundPEATS created another giant slayer with these Mini Pro earbuds? We’d like to give a shoutout to Digital Walker, who graciously sent us this unit for review.

Design

The case of the SoundPEATS Mini Pro earbuds features a simple, rounded design. It takes form in a pill-like shape with SOUNDPEATS embossed into the front, and the only other details you’ll find are a status indicator light and a USB Type C port at the rear. More remarkable is the rubberized finish, allowing better grip while in the hand while minimizing fingerprints and dirt. We can imaging that this simple but practical design works wonders in everyday life.

Opening up this clamshell design reveals the top of the earbuds themselves. The shape reminds us of a guitar pick, with the SoundPEATS logo located at the lower right. To be honest, it’s a little bit similar to either a 5 or the Superman logo, depending on how you look at it.

Upon pulling out the earbuds, most apparent is its two-part design – much like a peanut, and three parts if you count the stem. These two round dome-like components are more or less equal in size. We can imagine the ergonomic reasons behind this shape and we’ll put that to the test during the fit testing. Both its parts feature some significant components, such as the charging pins, microphones, and indicator lights.

User Interface and Fit

We weren’t expecting much from the SoundPEATS application but were pleasantly surprised by its diverse range of settings and supported devices. There is a variety of equalizer presets available to cater to genres of music, but those who want to do some more tinkering can select “Custom Equalizer” and adjust everything themselves. Noise reduction allows the user to trigger ANC, Normal, and Transparency Modes – while the Game Mode reduces latency to eliminate lag and delays while gaming.

The touch controls are quite easy to get used to due to a combination of intelligently-programmed patterns and sensitive pads. The shortcuts feel very familiar because they’ve also been implemented on other earbuds before, whether these may be SoundPEATS or different brands. We could imagine any user growing accustomed to these in a matter of hours or days, without ever feeling the need to refer to the user manual. Two extra pairs of tips come with the buds in order to accommodate smaller or larger ears.

Bluetooth 5.2 does its job excellently here. Drops, bugs, and other signal loss issues were nonexistent during the time of testing the SoundPEATS Mini Pro in this review. The pairing was effortless as well.

In the ear, the peanut-like design suddenly makes sense. The lower section embeds snugly into the lower portion of the ear, with the stem delivering music straight to your brain. However, it isn’t fatiguing to wear like other buds and we can see ourselves wearing these for long-haul flights. The outer portion hooks onto the outer ear like someone holding on for dear life, without the pain involved. It achieves a secure fit without the need for hooks and other bulky accessories.

We even took a nap with this, side sleepers included. No discomfort at all.

Audio Quality and Battery Life

We’ll first give feedback on the buds in the “SoundPEATS Classic” equalizer as the out-of-the-box setting. The sound is warm, to say the least. It is by no means a reference pair of audiophile-grade gear, but that doesn’t mean it’s not well-tuned. The bass is pronounced and makes itself feel present through its heavy thumps, but it doesn’t distort the audio at all. There is zero muddiness which is a surprising fact for something with this much oomph.

The mids and vocals take a little bit of a backseat here, but there is an ample amount of treble to cut through the waves of bass. We’re not sure if recessed is the right term since the vocals still are pretty out there on tracks that aren’t as boomy. A small observation is we found ourselves increasing the volume on tracks with not much of a bass line if the previous song was a thumper. It will really be up to the user to decide, but we’d say it performs adequately well with all genres.

We’re just nitpicking though. Most people would be perfectly satisfied with the SoundPEATS Mini Pro earbuds in this review.

As seen in the earlier menu, there are nine EQ presets to choose from. However, we’d be willing to argue that none of them are enough to convince us that we’re listening to a totally different pair of earbuds. The major sonic characteristics noticed earlier remain, which means the bass is still very much present in the “Bass reduction” setting. It’s still a nice touch that tailors the buds to suit the genre a little bit more though.

Turning on the ANC just shuts out the world. It is immensely powerful and resistant to any low frequencies, especially considering the compact size of the buds themselves. This would be ideal in a noisy setting where users need extreme silence that could actually come within the realm of what over-ear ANC headphones can provide. However, a few may feel pressure sickness after an extended period of time due to the vacuums these create around your ears. Another limitation of ANC technology is neutralizing middle-range frequencies and inconsistent sounds such as idle chatter and music, which these could also not completely block out. These, admittedly, are minor gripes when considering the price-to-performance ratio.

People who were on the other end of calls could also hear us clearly and audibly. The onboard microphones perform their tasks to a T.

Wrap-Up and Conclusions

The SoundPEATS Mini Pro, in our review time with it, managed to impress us with its ability to tick off all our priority boxes for a premium ANC pair of earbuds – but without the premium price tag. They have a sound signature that appeals to the mainstream, supreme comfort, effective noise cancelling, and responsive controls. They definitely aren’t perfect, but we’d easily recommend these over any of the other options at this price point.
