The 57-inch Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 Is Absurdly Wide

Samsung’s starting its CES 2023 salvo with a truly ridiculous, 8K, 57-inch ultra-wide display. Dubbed the Odyssey Neo G9, this ultra-wide gaming monitor is the widest we’ve seen, with a display ratio of 32:9 and spanning the entire width of a normal desk.

The display is so wide that you’ll probably need to rotate your head to see your entire desktop, which makes it perfect if you’re the sort of person that does intense multitasking while gaming. The overall resolution for the entire thing is 7,860 x 2,160, which works out to roughly 8K. Samsung is claiming that it’s the first dual UHD mini-LED monitor. Aside from that, it has a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and HDR 1000 support, 240Hz refresh rate, and 1ms response time. It’s a massive display that will probably require the fastest GPUs on the planet to utilize properly – but if you’re springing for this monster it’s probably safe to assume you have a few hundred thousand pesos to spare on an RTX 4080, right?

Aside from this gaming monitor monstrosity, Samsung also announced a somewhat more reasonable 49-inch curved OLED gaming monitor in the form of the Odyssey OLED G9. This monitor has a dual quad-HD resolution, 1800R curved display with the same 32:9 aspect ratio as its bigger brother, and has an insane 0.1ms response time and 240Hz refresh rate.

Unsurprisingly Samsung hasn’t announced pricing for either the Odyssey Neo G9 or the Odyssey OLED G9, but we wouldn’t be surprised if either of them cost the equivalent of your child’s tuition for a year.
