They’re still no. 1
Huawei has a lot to be thankful for last Q3 2018, at least according to research firm Canalys: the Chinese company is still the top contender in their home country, holding around 25% of the share in smartphone sales according to volume. Following closely behind the company is vivo, who took over the #2 spot from sister company OPPO who now sits in third. Xiaomi currently sits in #4, while surprise surprise, Apple still sits pretty in #5.
All in all Chinese manufacturers managed to rake in $30.7 billion in revenue. Two of the biggest winners in terms of dough raked in was Apple, who got around 23% of that pie, with Huawei following close behind at 22%. OPPO comes in at 20%, with vivo following at 17%.
Not all news is good news though, as China’s smartphone market fell 15%, thanks to falling consumer demand and weakening economic outlook. It’s very clear that people are buying phones less often now, and are increasingly holding on to their phones for longer.
