TCL One-Ups Xiaomi with the Thunderbird Smart Glasses

TCL One-Ups Xiaomi with the Thunderbird Smart Glasses

If you find Xiaomi’s smart glasses cool enough for having a built-in MicroLED display on the optics themselves, TCL makes an attempt to outdo Xiaomi with the Thunderbird smart glasses.

While they are similar to Xiaomi’s “wearable device concept” by having a MicroLED display, TCL managed to make that display full color–Xiaomi’s smart glasses have a monochrome panel.

Like Xiaomi’s approach, TCL makes use of 4um LEDs on the Thunderbird glasses but claims that their team developed an algorithm that enables the smart glasses to display a full-color image.

TCL adds that it took them three years and a dedicated in-house team to develop the MicroLED panel to display full color. The display is also transparent like the one in Xiaomi’s smart glasses, making the Thunderbird look and feel like your usual pair of specs.

In the demo video, the Thunderbird glasses come with a camera on the bridge, along with touch controls, a loudspeaker, and a microphone. The video also shows how TCL wants the Thunderbird to replace your smartphone’s display to do a variety of things: check your schedule, read the news, control your smart home, and engage in video calls.

Based on all those features presented, it is presumed that you will need your phone’s internet connectivity to maximize the Thunderbird’s full functionality.

TCL has yet to reveal the availability and price of the Thunderbird smart glasses as of this writing.
