That may change with the arrival of Android Lollipop, as Google has been working hard to try and make the OS more efficient and to maximize your battery. The company says you can expect up to 90 minutes more battery life with their battery saver feature, as well as the capability to let you know just how long your phone has left before it needs a trip to the charger.

3. Screen what notifications gets to you when you’re resting – it sucks to get a text message or a phone call in the middle of the night when you’re sleeping, only to find out it’s another spam message from Caritas Health Shield. Now you can avoid that via the Priority mode on Android L. You can now set downtime schedules were only certain people and notifications can go through, allowing you get some R&R without getting bothered by trivial things.

4. A smoother Android experience through ART – along with Android Lollipop comes a new runtime, dubbed ART. Google is promising that ART improves application performance and responsiveness up tp 4X. You’re also looking at a smoother UI experience for complex and visually rich applications, as well as support for 64-bit SoCs using ARM, x86 and MIPS-based cores. This means you’ll see even more SoC choices for Android devices moving forward.

5. Better, smarter security – Google is saying that Android Lollipop will come better security for Android, which is a big deal considering how much data we put on our phones and tablets nowadays. New Android Lollipop devices will have encryption automatically turned on to keep you secure. There’s even a new feature dubbed Android Smart lock – if you have a trusted wearable with you for example that’s paired with your device, your phone won’t ask you to input its lock code for you to access it. When you’re away from your device, the phone will then ask people who try to unlock it for the pass code. Even better, the factory reset option can now be password protected, which when combined with Google’s remote locking feature, will make your phone useless if anyone tries to steal it.
