Scam Alert: DICT Warns Public Vs NCAP Cyber Attack

With the No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) not in effect since 2022, Filipinos are caught off-guard with the recent proliferation of texts alleging that they have yet to paid their NCAP violations and need to settle it within 7 days. The MMDA has reminded the public that NCAP remains suspended, and the DICT is alerting everyone regarding this new scam.

In its advisory, the DICT warns the public against this new NCAP scam, as it is another form of phishing since the scam message includes a link where it will ask (and steal) user’s sensitive information like bank credentials. The DICT also reminds everyone to enable 2-factor to provide additional security for all of their online accounts.

Previous scam text have a similar modus, and there are two things to check if these messages are suspicious: check the number that sent the message, check the grammar of the message (most of the time, scam messages have terrible grammar), and watch out for any URLs included in these suspicious messages.
