MIAS EXCLUSIVE: The Hyundai IONIQ 6 Is The Future Of EVs

One of the major showstoppers at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) was the Hyundai IONIQ 6. Positioned at the forefront of the brand’s commitment to carbon neutrality through electrification, the impressive effort captured a lot of attention at the show.

There’s no doubt that the IONIQ 5 made waves when it was unveiled to the world in 2021. Seeing a unit in the Philippines garnered a lot of oohs and aahs from the people, piquing their curiosity on the practicality of EV ownership in the country. This bold step forward paved the way for what has eventually become the Hyundai IONIQ 6, the company’s upcoming fully-electrified midsize sedan. It has won numerous prestigious awards such as the 2023 World Car Design of The Year, 2023 World Electric Vehicle of the Year, and the coveted 2023 World Car of The Year.

Its design is admittedly like no other. The vehicle was designed with the theme “sporty and sleek” in mind. Hyundai boasts its signature 3D parametric pixel lights complemented by glass-like, transparent textures. The sloping rear quarter panel really reminds us of the Elantra line, which also sports this unique shape that puts it in the middle of a conventional sedan and a hatchback. We can imagine that this does a lot to help with rear passenger headroom and comfort.

Expected modern touches such as door handles that sit flush in the body when not in use also adorn its outer panels.

On the inside, this Hyundai IONIQ 6 is proud of its cocoon-like feeling that wraps around the occupants comfortably. We played around with the materials and found mostly soft-touch materials. The plastics that were present were obviously not your typical creaky, cheap materials. These materials really felt like they were done with sustainability in mind. Everything feels well-thought out and otherworldly. Whether this is a gadget or a car, or something that sits somewhere in between, is entirely up to you.

This vehicle will easily hit its top speed of 185 km/h with rapid 0-100 acceleration times of 5.1 seconds. The Hyundai IONIQ 6 will keep going for an advertised range of 545 km. Equipped as well with the brand’s proprietary driver-assistance system including Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2), and Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA 2), among others. Charging-wise, it also supports both 400V and 800V which boosts battery life from 10% to 80% in just under 18 minutes.

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 is set to be officially launched towards the middle of the year for around PHP 4,000,000. Currently, the IONIQ 5 is already on retail for PHP 3,068,000, 2WD Standard Range, and PHP 3,698,000 for the 2WD Long Range. It is being offered with a 5-year or 200,000-km vehicle warranty, 8-year or 160,000-km battery warranty and free Preventive Maintenance Service (PMS) for 5 years or 75,000-km, whichever comes first. The installation of a 7.4KWh AC wall charger also comes standard with every purchase.

We can imagine seeing more of these on the road, especially to meet number coding and tax incentives.
