With April 26 being just a few days away, and the DICT has no plans of extending the registration for SIM cards, one of the consequences of not registering your SIM card is that it will get deactivated. However, the IRR for the SIM Registration Law also provides a provision for reactivation should users miss the April 26 deadline.
This was pointed out by the NTC, as they said that users who have their SIM cards deactivated after April 26 have five days to reactivate their SIM and still comply with SIM Registration laws. NTC Deputy Commissioner Jon Paulo Salvahan, however, said that the IRR does not include the reactivation procedure for deactivated SIM cards–and we expect the DICT to release guidelines on this in the next few days.
What the IRR of the SIM Registration Law has is a provision for a 120-day extension beyond the April 26 deadline. with that put into consideration, Salvahan adds that factors like the rate of registration and issues in the SIM registration are still being considered at the moment. The latter is applicable to GOMO, of which they pointed to the use of auto-clickers as the cause for SIM registration issues for its users.
As of April 19, NTC noted that 75,564,837 SIM cards have been registered, which accounts for 44.97% of all SIM cards in the country.
