The All-New Hyundai Accent Is LOOKING GOOD

The Hyundai Accent has always been one of the most popular cars in our country. Ever since the first model released with bold claims regarding fuel economy, it has become a mainstay with both private and public transport operators in the Philippines. Now it seems that the latest model is doing away with the brand’s former conventional styling roots and moving along in the new direction of ultramodern, sleek aesthetics. The all-new Hyundai Accent, known as the Verna in other parts of the world, is set to make a global debut on March 21. Spy shots of the vehicle have been leaked recently and we’re impressed by how it looks.

Based on currently available information, the humble commuter has been reborn with Hyundai’s “Sensuous Sportiness” design philosophy. It does look as futuristic as the all-new Staria, Stargazer, and Creta models. Most noticeable is the full LED light bar that stretches from end to end. The rear arrow-like lights also stretch from one end to the other, adding to the car’s striking appeal.

Some say that a 1.5-liter direct-injection turbo engine will be making its way in the Hyundai Accent. It will output 160 horsepower, mated to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DCT. Based on the competitive landscape, we can ascertain this to be the more premium model as it can even compete with vehicles in higher segments. We’ve also seen how well the wet DCT has performed in the N-division cars such as the Elantra, Veloster, and Kona. If this one is anything like that, or even a derivative of it, then we can expect smooth driving even under load.

The other engine internationally is the 1.5-liter NA engine producing around 115 ponies paired to a six-speed manual or a CVT. This could replace the 100-horsepower base model engine we have here in the Philippines. The top-spec local units we had also carried a 1.6-liter CRDi option since the Philippines is still a market that relies on diesel engines. That specific model whipped out 128 horsepower.

According to rumors, the interior will have multiple displays within; at least for the more premium variants.

Only time will tell whether or not Hyundai Philippines will give the new Accent the same engines as they use abroad, or if only the base and diesels will make it here. Regardless, it’s an modernized spaceship that we’d love to see on Philippine roads.
