How Legion Academy Values the Importance of Proper Shoutcasting Training

If you have been following eSports for quite some time, you will probably notice how important shoutcasters are in every match. Aside from relaying vital tournament information to the viewer, shoutcasters supplement entertainment value and give valuable insights on a play-by-play basis.

“The shoutcaster is the centerpiece in managing the energy and flow of information to the viewer; they need to balance the amount of information they provide against keeping the excitement going. It isn’t about just shouting when a player makes a good play, it’s about telling you why it’s a good play, the how’s, the why’s, and the who’s who,” Lenovo Philippines 4P Product Manager Tristan Gonzales explains.

Lenovo values the importance of proper training to shoutcasters, which is why it expanded the function of Legion Academy to include a program for training shoutcasters. Together with AMD and lead mentor Edwin “Arctikuno” Theo Rodriguez, Legion Academy aims to hone all aspiring shoutcasters to prepare them for hosting tournaments.

Founded in 2019 as part of Lenovo Legion’s annual regional tournaments, Legion Academy is stepping it up through a rigorous selection process, where a chosen few will be able to work with Theo through 1-to-1 training. The scope of the training includes:

  • Improving their creativity (such as vocabulary used during speeches, how to manage downtime during matches);
  • Speech techniques (pronunciation and clarity); and
  • Basics in technical setups required for better casting in the current climate.

With each 1-to-1 session lasting for 1-2 hours per day per shoutcaster, the program will also cover real-world applications that include other aspects of it. “A good caster has extensive knowledge of the game, is great at delivering information and charisma on screen,” Gonzales adds.

From the program, four finalists will showcase their best shoutcasting talents. These include CasterYuuske, Dash, ExcelSor PH, and Zaco.

Big opportunities await the top 2 winners of Legion Academy, as they will have scheduled appearances in Lenovo’s Valorant Tournaments that will span for several months. This will serve as the perfect opportunity for the top 2 winners to hone their skills further and make shoutcasting their career.

Aside from scheduled appearances in Lenovo’s Valorant Tournaments, the top 2 participants get to bring home a Legion 5 AMD laptop, while the participant who wins “Most Popular Vote” gets to bring home a Legion Y27q-20 monitor.
