MRT-7 Now 55.3% Complete, Set to Open by December 2022

The Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) project is now 55.3% complete. San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President Ramon Ang shared this news on Facebook along with a sneak peek of the new train sets from South Korea.

Earlier this month, we told you about the arrival of trains sets procured all the way from the Hyundai ROTEM Company in South Korea. Well, the trains sets are already here and most of the foundational work is complete. This is according to SMC President Ramon Ang.

MRT-7

“Our MRT-7 project is 55.3% complete, with most foundational work already done. We look forward to welcoming our first passengers by December next year. Thanks to our Filipino engineers and workers, we’re progressing very well despite all the challenges. I’d also like to thank the government, especially the DoTR and our LGUs, without whose support none of this would be possible,” Ramon Ang said in a Facebook post.

The MRT-7 is a P63-billion project that will link North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. It is one of SMC’s biggest infrastructure projects, next only to the New Manila International Airport, which will rise in Bulacan. The MRT-7 project will be a 22-km railway that can reduce travel time from North Avenue in Quezon City and San Jose del Monte in Bulacan from the current 2-3 hours down to just 35 minutes. It will have 14 stations and it can accommodate up to 525,000 to 850,000 passengers daily.

The construction activities on the guideway and stations, as well as the electronic and mechanical works, are ongoing despite the current COVID-19 situation. Initial test runs are scheduled for December 2022.
