Ookla: Philippine Internet Speed Shows Slight Improvement

Ookla, a reliable provider of internet performance metrics, detected a slight improvement in both mobile and fixed broadband internet speed in the Philippines.

Ookla: Philippine Internet Speed Shows Slight Improvement

Ookla just released the results of its Speedtest Global Index rankings for May 2022, where the local median speeds show 19.26 Mbps for mobile and 60.09 Mbps for fixed broadband.

The mobile median download speed is 19.26 Mbps while the upload is at 5.46 Mbps, which is a bit faster compared to the results back in April at 19.45 Mbps download speed and 5.52 Mbps upload speed.

On the other hand, fixed broadband median download speed got a slight increase this month at 60.09 Mbps and an upload of 56.44 Mbps, compared to April’s 55.21 Mbps download and 52.10 Mbps upload.

Having said all this, the Philippines now ranks 91st in the Ookla Speed Test Global Index, which is 4 places higher than last month. Norway now leads the mobile download speed at 129.40 Mbps, while Singapore still leads fixed broadband speed at 209.21 Mbps.

Internet Satellite Service Soon

Internet in the Philippines will be interesting with the impending entry of Starlink in the country. Their recent NTC approval signals that Starlink is right on schedule for their Q4 2022 commercial launch in the Philippines. While Filipinos are very excited about how Starlink can improve the Philippine internet, they have to understand that Starlink caters to a different audience.
