Meet the new iPhone 6! Now comes in two varieties!
As expected, Apple has officially revealed the iPhone 6 to the waiting public. The new iPhones will have two screen sizes – one 4.7-inch and another, bigger, 5.5-inch variant. Apple says that the new iPhone is Ion strengthened, has Retina HD displays and use sRGB active panels. Apple has confirmed the resolution sizes of both devices to be 1334 x 750 for the smaller 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 1920 x 1080 for the bigger iPhone 6 PlusAs far as overall thickness is concerned, you’re looking at 6.8mm for the iPhone 6 and 7.1mm for the iPhone 6 Plus. As comparison, the iPhone 5S is around 7.6mm thin.
Under the hood lies Apple’s newest chip, dubbed the Apple A8. The A8 is a 64-bit chip, built with a 20-nanometer process. Apple says that it’s around 25% faster than the A7, and has 50% faster graphics. The iPhone 6’s processor promises better sustained performance, which means that it’s able to run longer on maximum load without producing a lot of heat, with is good news for battery life. Both devices also come with Apple’s newest M8 motion co-processor , which is designed primarily for fitness apps. The new processor can now tell the difference between a user cycling or running, and also calculate distance and elevation.
During the event Apple demoed a couple of games, most notable of which was Vain Glory to show off the processor’s mettle. The device ran the games without a hitch, even though the games looked insanely good. As far as battery life is concerned, the iPhone 6 Plus is said to have around 24 hours of 3G talk time, while the iPhone 6 has 14 hours of 3G talk time.
Speaking of wireles radios, the iPhone 6 now support 20 LTE bands, which pretty much means that both devices will be able to run on almost all LTE bands in the world.
The previous generation of iPhones were known for their cameras, and the iPhone 6 is no exception. You’re looking at an 8-megapixel, iSight camera, True Tone flash, 1.5 micron pixels and a large, f/2.2 aperture. The camera on the iPhone 6 also has phase detection autofocus built-in, as well as image stabilization (software for the iPhone 6, hardware for the iPhone 6 Plus). Users now have the ability to stitch panoramas as big as 43 megapixels if they choose. The cameras can now record 1080p video shot at either 30 or 60 FPS. There’s also a slow-mo mode that shoots at 240FPS.
The iPhone 6 will start at $199 forthe 16GB, going up to $399 for 128GB with a two year contract in the US.
The iPhone 6 Plus on the other hand, starts at $299 for 16GB, $399 for 64, $499 for the 128GB with a two year contract in the US. They’ll ship in the US starting Sept. 19, with Apple projecting the device to launch in 115 countries by the end of the year. No off contract price has been set.
