Geely Now Officially Owns Meizu: Meizu 20 First Product?

With Geely officially acquiring Meizu, the Chinese automaker might be launching its own smartphones starting with the Meizu 20.

It has just over 6 months since Chinese automaker Geely purchased a majority stake from two of Meizu’s stakeholders in its plans to enter the smartphone market. As we enter 2023, It Home reports that Geely now officially owns Meizu after original shareholder Huang Zhang, Telling Communication Holdings Co., Ltd., Zhuhai Honghua New Kinetic Energy Equity Investment Fund (Limited partnership), Haitong Innovation Securities Investment Co., Ltd., and others withdrew their shares.

With Geely now owning Meizu, there are changes with the latter’s operations. Shen Ziyu is now the chairman of Zhuhai Meizu Technology Co., Ltd., while Wuhan Xinglian Times Technology Co., Ltd. is now the main shareholder of the company, with Shen Ziyu as the legal representative.

We still don’t have news on Geely’s plans after acquiring Meizu, but the latter is set to unveil a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered Meizu 20 flagship in Spring–or sometime between April to June. Aside from a new flagship phone, Meizu is going to unveil their own Hifi Audio player with the M3 Pro.

With Geely’s eventual foray into smartphones, phone manufacturers like Xiaomi and Huawei will most likely be its biggest rivals since both phone brands are also investing in cars as well, with Xiaomi set to unveil a Tesla-rivaling EV sports car soon.
