Samsung Introduces One UI

Goodbye Samsung Experience, hello One UI

At Samsung’s Annual Developer Conference–where their much-awaited foldable phone was unveiled in prototype form–the Korean brand introduced the next evolution of Samsung experience.

Made in close partnership with Google and the Android developer community, One UI aims to reduce the clutter and improve on-screen interaction. As presented during the conference, these changes include keeping the most relevant content at the bottom of the screen. Samsung claims that this makes the experience “more natural”. Other changes include a new Dark Mode, a revamped lock screen, and updated navigation buttons.

One UI’s bottom half-focused design plays an important role for Samsung’s upcoming Infinity Flex display. Because Samsung’s foldable display tech is both a phone and tablet, One UI will let users have up to three apps open at once. One UI aims to make the transition from phone to tablet a seamless experience.

The Android Pie-based One UI will be made available starting with the Galaxy Note 9, S9, and S9+ on January 2019. An Open Beta Program will be offered this month.
